Horror Finds at Goodwill #1

Well.

We’re back!

And I’ve been out the house! Multiple times and made it to a thrift store not once, not twice but three times within last week. I want to discuss the things I’ve found, what I’m always looking for and the overall experience because it was a journey and a half.

Let’s take it back to last Wednesday, the 22nd of July.

For those who do not know, I have been taking care of my grandmother since the summer of 2020 when I left this part time job (due to major choices they were doing that I did not agree with) and because of that change, I wasn’t able to go to goodwill or other thrift stores as often as I was doing prior to the change. So last Wednesday was a day where I’d have a little bit of time to go thrifting. My grandmother had a doctor’s appointment, there’s a Goodwill about 10 minutes away, let’s do this!

When it comes to what I’m looking for: horror movies on either vhs or dvd, horror or thriller books, magazines for random art projects, dolls, other films like Disney/personal choice, cds, childhood books such as Animorphs, Goosebumps, etc, and storage space. Imagine my surprise that the majority of the day’s pick ups were horror dvds, a book and a Funko pop in a grab bag that I already have and now I have two of them.

I will say that this goodwill is where a lot of my vhs collection came from but in recent times, especially since post pandemic, it has varied with success. Sometimes, I’d find some items and then some trips, absolutely nothing. But this trip was very, very successful with some finds. The media section was STACKED, dvds back to back, not many in the vhs section below which again, shows how time changed. VHS tapes were EVERYWHERE and took up the majority of the shelves and now, you can barely find them, like are they all being sold on eBay now?? And what VHS tapes you do find is like womp womp.

Here’s what I found:

To me, this is pretty successful. However, the Saw dvds almost got stuck in my dvd player so minus the Saw films, everything was still in good condition and played with no problems.

I keep finding The Vampire Chronicles and I am not mad at that kind of luck but it was a surprise to find the film cover edition of (The) Queen of the Damned. Funnily enough, if you follow me on IG, I have been watching Interview with the Vampire into The Vampire Lestat and now we are entering The Queen of the Damned book (and read books 1-5, always looking for other books in the series) and even though I have this book TWICE, I couldn’t pass up the chance on buying this version. I give away dupes to only find them again!

I will say that the downer of the trip was finding Saw V and there was no disc inside. Bummer. Then turn around, find a Blockbuster edition of the remake of Black Christmas (X-Mas) and there’s a bonus disc inside of the remake to When a Stranger Calls.

I feel like the scales rebalanced themselves with that.

Well guys, this was the first goodwill of the previous week and next week, I’ll share what I found at two other stores on Friday. Until then, feel free to follow the blog, follow me on Instagram (shotsofhorror) and on letterboxd (shotsofhorror) and I will see you guys next week!

I’m trying to get back into the groove of this. This was a day or two late, it was too much going on.

Peace, love and chicken grease 🙂
