How does one re-introduce themselves on their own blog?
Um…
Hi. I’m here again.
And it has been a long time but not as long as I thought it was. But if you aren’t in the loop, I never went anywhere, I just took a long deserved hiatus because my mental health NEEDED it. Let’s talk more about that below!
I am someone who can overwork or get too into what I’m doing and go, go, go and that results in major burnout. I was dealing with a major form of burnout. It’s still there but not as much because I recognized the signs and took it.

And the burnout had been building for YEARS and I was trying to play catch up with everyone else: like watching and consuming so many movies and tv shows just to catch up with other bigger people in the genre and honestly, I couldn’t do that anymore. And I should enjoy films and tv and any form of media on my own terms and I’ve been doing that lately. When I’m in the mood to watch something, I’ll watch it. I can’t force it anymore. This is a hobby, enjoying horror and the genre is a hobby. Can I monetize it? Sure. But that’s an extra hassle that I’m not really interested in right now.
I have also been dealing with personal (family) issues that require more of my time, picked up different hobbies (reading, some art, photography), keeping myself occupied on just going through day to day life. But my love of horror hasn’t faded, if anything, during my hiatus, the love for the genre has GROWN and expanded. I hope you guys followed me on Instagram during the hiatus and now because you’ll see that I’ve watched many films(letterboxd mostly), tv shows, posted a bit more actively, but the biggest has been how I’ve been adding in more physical media around the genre into my life (or space).
Now, this isn’t a new subject. We seem to be in a current time where companies or corporations WANT to get rid of physical media and yet there’s news of Gen Z and Millenials (and maybe even older generations) collecting physical media whether it’s cds, cassettes, vinyls, dvds and blu-rays, older televisions with or without VCRs attached, cd players, boomboxes, dvd/blu ray players, magazines, books, older technology like ipods, mp3 players, video now, portable players, game consoles, video games, like it’s been very prominent lately. And as someone who has been collecting for years (never got rid of certain technologies or items) at this point but a heightened focus in 2018/2019 for horror specifically, I wanted to start sharing my journey.
Granted, I share things on Instagram which is great, mostly in stories but in January of this year, I did think about pivoting the blog into this direction of documenting my journey with physical media when it comes to horror and the timing is right and ironic at the same time.
So that’s what you’ll be seeing here on the blog. My thrift journeys, my collection, any thought pieces on physical media involving the genre or just what I like, maybe looking at older posts that fit this new pivot and adding onto it.
Previous posts will stay up and available, I am not starting over from scratch! But what I am hoping is that I will gather a list of movies (or tv shows) that I am missing from my collection and it recently dawned on me an example of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I have the original, part 2 and the remake (2003) on vhs but I only have the remake on dvd. Like did I not think to go out and search for it? Or did I think that because I have it in one way, I didn’t need it in another? I can guarantee that’s exactly what I thought! Now I want it in both formats! Or blu-ray, I am now open to that too cos I bought a player not that long ago in a goodwill (months ago but this year).
Okay so maybe this will be more helpful than even I thought!
So um get ready for this ride where I’ll talk about my own personal experiences and share photos or anything that feels relevant. Again, I cannot believe we are doing this again but it’s time! I’ve missed you guys, missed this experience of blogging, missed sharing ideas or concepts or content where I can voice my thoughts thoroughly.
To quote the Cryptkeeper, wish me luck boils and ghouls! Check back next week!
Peace, love and chicken grease xx
