Boogeymen Vol 3… the threequel

I decided to bring this series back because I love how horror continues to evolve and we are introduced to new antagonists whether from classic horror to more modern horror, there are some who just stick around.

I’ve previously done a vol 2 which included Art the Clown (Terrifier), the Masked Intruders (The Strangers), Harry Warden (My Bloody Valentine), Patrick Bateman (American Psycho) and so many others which, again, you guys can read in the link if you missed it but I wasn’t fully aware of how to approach this volume 3 this time around. Last time was around 2022 and that feels like a LIFETIME ago and now in 2025 where horror is pretty much on this great landscape of original ideas and concepts being successful and sequels are being done because the first did incredibly well (FNAF, Megan) and we’re getting a good amount of new “boogeymen” to add to the long list.

So with these new 19, yes, 19 because it was originally going to be 18 but I thought of someone else at the last minute and I wanted to include them because we were lacking some ladies. I did a quick rewatch of the original Boogeymen (the killer compilation) and got distracted by the trailers and here we go!

Now like Boogeymen (the killer compilation), I wanted to share at least 3 facts about said character to give some context or interest without giving too much away unless you haven’t seen the film but these are important things about them. These are their cliff notes. There are also some other key reasons why I chose these 18, well 19 since Esther is a bonus and deserves to be on here: creative kills, uniqueness and longevity.

For example, the craziest kill I’ve seen in recent times comes from In a Violent Nature and I don’t want to spoil it but I can guarantee, you’ve never seen anything like that. Talk about uniqueness and creativity. And I also can see a killer like Johnny having some longevity. He reminds me a lot of the character Harry Warden (My Bloody Valentine, 1981) or even Jason Voorhees and even if we get just one film out of the character, I think he’s made an interesting mark on modern horror slashers.

Last time, I picked a lot of characters that were either well known or a good mix of male and female characters. This time around, there’s a bit more obscure or heavily underrated horror films such as The Car (shocked I didn’t throw in Grizzly, have y’all seen that?!), Tourist Trap, Leslie Vernon or The Burning.

And there were a lot of male characters in here and I needed to throw in some ladies and I think I chose good. I know Nancy is a victim of circumstance as well and still a teenager, however, her actions got her to the place towards the end of the film due to continuing to abuse her power, the source of her power, she killed a fellow student (I’d say poor Chris but he also had issues that were there before the spell and then was ENHANCED) and perhaps she doesn’t fit the typical Boogeyman type but if it were a battle, would you want to go up against a full charged, manic Nancy Downs?

Maybe one day I’ll do a tv/miniseries version of this because I mean, we can immediately add Hannibal Lecter (NBC Hannibal) and Villanelle (Killing Eve) to that list of TV Boogeymen. But until then, make sure you read the previous post on Vol 2, check out the actual Boogeymen compilation on dvd and vhs. It is pretty dated, it’s good for a passing time and there are some characters or films that aren’t talked about (The Guardian, The Ugly, maybe The Dentist at times?).

Peace, love and chicken grease!
